Differences Generate Progress

DIFFERENCES GENERATE PROGRESS

Oscar Wilde said, “Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.”

Our differences—diversity—enrich our possibilities and can also produce misunderstanding if we don’t frame those differences effectively.

We have all run into situations where another person just doesn’t get it. It’s easy at that point to blame someone for being clueless. A more effective starting point, which doesn’t step on anyone’s toes, is: “S/he and I see this very differently.”

This session focuses on the interesting and complicated universe of individual preferences— learning styles, generation, culture, respect, interests, individual dictionaries (none of which are the same!), experience—all the factors that shape us, especially in the workplace.

Not Your Usual Diversity utilizes two AzaLearning assessments, Communication Style: My Impact on Others and The Values Scale, to help clarify how expectations affect those around us. Additional assessments such as the MBTI© or Ntrinsx© can be seamlessly inserted into the day’s focus.

This session leads participants to a better understanding of how to reveal, acknowledge, and appreciate differences, and how these add value to the group’s interactions. The session is especially useful for managers and supervisors coping with an increasingly diverse workforce. When we use our differences as a resource rather than as a stumbling block, we gain immense creative and productive power.

Participants will develop a plan to improve and measure verbal performance over a six-month period. The plan includes three virtual reporting and coaching sessions with Mac Bogert to benchmark success and to change habits that impede powerful communication.
